52 in 1: The Body in the Library

No eating, drinking, smoking, or killing in the Library.

For week 48, I read The Body in the Library, by Agatha Christie. I gave this one five stars, because Christie sets up the murder to be quite ordinary and salacious, until it isn’t anymore. I don’t want to go on too long about it, because I’m afraid I’ll spoil it and then you won’t be as inclined to read it.

I love the Bantries, and the way Christie kindly mocks their upper-class silliness, while still making them loveable characters. Marple, naturally, putters about in her harmless-old-lady way being quite unnoticed by anybody important, and thus gets to the heart of things as she reads people. I love how the investigators get flustered when she unravels things.

And I love how things twist around at the end. Go read it!
