52 in 1: Hounded

Just hangin’ out with my giant sword. Nothing to see here.

For week 41 I read Hounded, book one in the Iron Druid Chronicles, by Kevin Hearne. I really enjoyed it, too. This is good example of an urban fantasy book that doesn’t have romance complicating the plot, and focuses more on the characters to move itself forward. Atticus is a likeable guy with a complicated past, and when you’ve been around as long as he has, you know that eventually it’s going to catch up. He hangs out with his dog, and it’s fun to listen to the dog’s perspective on events as they happen. Add in some Celtic mythos and juxtapose it with the modern world, and you have an some interesting conflicts.

I bought three books in the series in a package e-deal and I’m pretty pleased with the purchase. If you’ve been thinking about venturing into urban fantasy, Hounded is a good place to start.
